VANS CUSTOM CULTURE
In 2019, Vans opened up an open call across Europe to come up with a design for their Authentic Vans trainers. The design was submitted as a digital sketch that was then 3D mapped on to a pair of trainers. The top 100 designs , through public vote, were narrowed down by a panel of judges and the Top 10 were sent a couple pairs to customise. I managed to place in the Top 10 and below is the pair of trainers I submitted. Personally, I think i should of won and it was clearly obvious that the winner must have bribed the judges by sending money in the pair they designed………well I like to tell myself that anyway. Needless to say it was a really fun couple of weeks and just placing top 10 was beyond what I expected when I entered. Though I didn’t win the competition, the runners up got a monster collection of vans merch. I wanted to include this in the features projects section, because it was one of my favourite competitions to date and I am a big Vans fan ,as I’ve been wearing the red Authentics most of my life.
